Is there anything more iconic during Spring in Washington D.C. than Cherry Blossoms? Spring in the D.C. Metro area is the best season. It's not humid, all the summer tourists haven't arrived yet, the Tidal Basin provides the best Instagram-worthy photos with a pink and white backdrop, and the air smells like candy from the blooming blossoms!
If you're planning to visit, here are some tips and details to provide a great trip!
Peak Bloom
The National Park Service has announced the peak dates of bloom! The dates are March 22 - March 25. You can follow along with their Facebook to get updates, and they have a ton of fun facts about the actual blooming process: https://www.facebook.com/NationalMallNPS/
Bloom Cam
Check out this Bloom Cam and watch each day as the blossoms come alive!
Instagram-Worthy Photo Opportunities
A majority of the blossoms are located along the Tidal Basin which provides great photo opportunities near the Jefferson Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
Family-friendly Fun
The entire experience is family-friendly, but there are some specific events that are sure to please everyone in the family. The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 20 - April 16, 2023. You can get full festival details on their website.
Some family-friendly events to put on the calendar:

Personal Tips from past visits
- The Metro elevators are small, if you're bringing a baby, consider wearing them instead.
- Pack a backpack with some basic items: dry snacks, water, sunscreen, a light blanket to sit and relax.
- If you're taking the Metro, buy and load your SmartTrip cards ahead of time to save time waiting in lines at busier stations.
- Go early in the morning and enjoy the scenery before it gets too busy.
- Remember to have fun and be patient, there will be a lot of people!
- And be sure to not pick the blossoms.
Enjoy your trip!
