It's National Outdoors Month

Where to find the best outdoor adventures in Northern VA

By Maria Ellis June 9, 2022

June is National Outdoors Month!

We have some amazing opportunities throughout our area. This is just a taste of some great places to spend time outdoors.

BULL RUN REGIONAL PARK

What better way to experience the outdoors than to enjoy one of the opportunities Bull Run Regional Park has to offer? Boat on the Occoquan Watertrail, play on the 18 hole disc golf course, camp at one of the camping sites or cabins, or walk along the Occoquan Trail Head.

BURKE LAKE PARK

Another fantastic option is Burke Lake Park. If you haven't had a chance to explore this very kid-friendly park, this is a great time to do so!

"Burke Lake Park has something for everyone tucked away in its 888 acres. Whether it’s riding on the miniature train or carousel, picnicking, testing your skills on the mini-golf or disc golf courses, indulging in a scoop of ice cream, taking in the sights from the tour boat, fishing, biking, boating, camping, or taking a walk around the 4.7 mile lake trail, Burke Lake is the perfect place to start you next family tradition. With so much to do you won’t want to leave and thanks to our campgrounds you can feel free to spend the whole weekend with us or even the week! When you visit you can also take advantage of the many family-friendly classes, camps, and special events."

HEMLOCK OVERLOOK REGIONAL PARK

Get away from it all and head to Hemlock Park where you can explore nature trails and enjoy scenic beauty. Located in Clifton, this absolutely beautiful park has walking trails and a peaceful stream that will make you forget all the busy-ness of everyday life.

ELLANOR C. LAWRENCE PARK

Stop by Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Centreville and spend as much or as little time as you'd like. You might choose to walk around this 650-acre park and enjoy habitats, such as forests, streams, meadows, and a pond. You can also pop inside the Walney Visitor Center to see live reptiles and amphibians and enjoy children's hands-on activities. Outside the Visitor Center, explore pollinator gardens, a historic kitchen garden, and historic structures.
