National Zoo and Aquarium Month is an excellent time to plan your trip to one of the amazing zoos or aquariums in our area! We are lucky to be located in a place that makes it easy to do a family day trip to the National Zoo, Baltimore Aquarium, or many other wonderful places full of interesting and exotic creatures.
Washington, D.C.

Maryland

Virginia
A very short trip from home, you'll meet giraffes, chickens, llamas, goats, and more. You might even take a ride on a pony or a camel!
Head an hour or so west of town to visit this rescue which is home to reptiles, primates, feline, birds, and mammals! The zoo also has a petting zoo area where you can pet and feed the animals.
Head a few hours south to Richmond to visit many interesting animals, feed a giraffe, farm animals, and yes, a penguin! Hop on some fun rides, like the Safari Train, Jungle Carousel, Safari Sky Lift, and the Penguin Sky Drop Tower! Or you can head for the trees for a zipline adventure!
Are you ready to ride an elephant? You don't want to miss this experience at Natural Bridge Zoo! The zoo is also home to other mammals, birds, and reptiles, many that you can feed and pet.
"Virginia's only drive-thru safari" is worth the almost 3 hour trip! You can see and feed animals, like the elk or deer, up close without even leaving your car. Enjoy walk-thru encounters with giraffes, sloths, and rhinos as well!
